You will be able to plunge into an area abounding in emotions where nature becomes history and remembrance, you will see the traces and evidence left by the Great War, indelible and meaningful signs for us not to forget our past and our identity. Along the high altitude Great War hiking trail, not only will you encounter ecomuseums, trenches, forts and former war cemeteries, but you will also be able to contemplate the nature of the area, changing according to the seasons and enchanting us with its wonderful landscapes.<\/p>\n

It is a route that can be walked over more than one day and in more than one section, suitable for families and children and at many points also accessible to persons with disabilities, if they are suitably equipped and accompanied.<\/p>\n

In addition to the many itineraries, on the way you will come across unique places and villages, discovering the land and the people who live it.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Advice for your hike<\/span><\/strong><\/h2><\/h1><\/div>

TheAlta Via high altitude Great War hiking trail<\/strong> is about 125 miles long,<\/strong> to be walked in from 18 to 21 days<\/strong>; we advise you to study the route and work out the stages according to your capacity and fitness, stopping at visitor centres, hotels, mountain huts and shepherds\u2019 huts where you can stay the night.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now we show you how we have broken down the main route considering a hiker\u2019s average ability, about 6 to 8 miles a day<\/strong>; there are some substantial differences in altitude at some points and we therefore suggest you have a guide to accompany you and always bear in mind the fundamental rules of safe hiking. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The Alta Via high altitude Great War hiking trail is a hike of about 125 miles long,<\/strong> to walk in from 18 to 21 days along<\/strong>paths and slopes that require physical fitness<\/strong> and familiarity with the mountain environment<\/strong>; accordingly, to cover the trail safely and serenely, we advise you to study the route and work out the stages on the basis of your ability, considering resting places at visitor centres, hotels, mountain huts and shepherd\u2019s huts where you can stay the night.<\/p>\n

Gear is an important factor that must be put together intelligently and with the benefit of experience.<\/strong> Your rucksack, clothing and boots must be right and suitable for a mountain environment so that you can deal with the risks that the mountains can confront you with.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

You can download GPX tracks<\/strong> to study the route and set up the stages; there are also many dedicated apps<\/strong> for you to download maps to use offline<\/strong>. Doing this, you can switch to flight mode<\/strong> while you are walking, thus saving the battery: your device will still show your position on the digital map.<\/p>\n<\/div>
