THE PROJECT
A journey full of powerful emotions
The Alta Via della Grande Guerra, a high-altitude hiking trail through Great War sites, is an itinerary of about 125 miles that joins from west to east four war memorials, symbols of the Province of Vicenza.
This is a project that unites and promotes the Vicenza mountainside with the aim of recounting the dramatic events that occurred on these heights during the First World War and making them known to a wider public.
The Great War trail is a life experience that detaches us from everyday life. At our side among the sounds of the wood and the scent of the soil, the route will take us deep into a natural environment that still bears the marks of war events, where you will be able to see and make acquaintance with sites that are now places of remembrance, a tangible and also intangible heritage that has come to us from our past.
Walking through these spaces means not forgetting what thousands of young men and so many families suffered for our freedom and helps us to have a clear view of the uselessness of conflict and its terrible consequences.
A precious area laden with emotions that takes us from the Pasubio War Memorial through the Vicenza mountains to the memorials at Cimone, then Leiten, Asiago, and finally to the Grappa War Memorial.
