The battlefields under the areas consecrated to the homeland

WAR SITES

Consecrated land

The vestiges of the First World War, which altered and left a mark on nature, are mute witnesses of a story that concerns the whole of Europe.
The desire to safeguard and preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the war in the years that followed it led the Italian State to enact laws having the purpose of protecting, respecting and restoring the traces that the conflict left behind.

The first measure was Decree Law 1386 of 29 October 1922, which designated the following mountains as consecrated land and thus put under special protection:

Monte Pasubio
Monte Grappa
Monte Sabotino
Monte San Michele

Four more areas were added after over 40 years:

Castel Dante in Rovereto
Monte Cengio
Monte Ortigara
Punta Serauta della Marmolada.

Going along the Alta Via high altitude Great War hiking trail, you will cross four of these consecrated areas of land and experience the itinerary more intensely and more spiritually.

Caro Presidente Ciampi,
